You are most probably using PowerShell V2 with the standard .NET 2.0 framework. The class being used here is new in the .NET Framework 4.0, thus is not normally available.

You can setup PowerShell to bind to .NET 4.0, in which case you'll find this assembly, alternatively, use the beta of PowerShell V3.

This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded.

In line 31, I set the computer name to "." (aka local host). If you wanted to get the hostname just used the hostname.exe eg:

$cname = hostname
"This computer is named {0}" -f $cname

Maybe this is just plain silly, but j..s@... and j.@... ARE valid email accounts. Which is a problem when trying to use regular expressions on email addresses. You might be able to get away with validating the domain part, but pretty much anything can go for the account name.

That is a very interesting way of handling the DMTF datetime format. Normally I would have just used the ConvertToDateTime() method on the WMI object and then reformat the datetime object as necessary.

The reason for the plus sign is due to public child classes. SpecialFolder is a public class nested within the System.Environment class. When referencing public child classes you have to use a + sign. I'm not sure why this particular bit of syntax (i.e. using the "+") works and why normal dotting doesn't. I spent hours trying to figure this out and came up with little to explain it, other than this works. I'd love to know too, but I just chalk it up to 'you just have to know'!

I borrowed code from this script. I know how the code works to get special folders. What I don't know is the syntax:
$folders = [system.Enum]::GetValues([System.Environment+SpecialFolder])

Why System.Environment+SpecialFolder? What is different (other than that System.Environment.SpecialFolder does not work in this instance)?

I hate using code without understanding the syntax, though I know what it does, it is frustrating; I have never seen the syntax mentioned anywhere else.

Thanks for the comment. The purpose of this blog, and this sample, is to show how you can use PowerShell and the underlying components can be used. In this case, I was using the COM object schedule.service to re-implement an MSDN sample.

As with everything PowerShell, there are always multiple ways to do almost anything!

Why not use schtasks.exe that they give you, you can create a task with one line. You can then make it run as System with one more line. Then you can execute the task with one more line.
